Perimeter Institute engages students, teachers, and science-curious people of all ages through programs and resources that communicate the power, joy, and mystery of science. Perimeter’s award-winning outreach team brings physics to life and boosts scientific literacy through classroom resources, teacher workshops, an educator network, student opportunities, and public lectures.
Free Resources
Perimeter Institute's free digital resources are designed to help teachers explain a range of important physics and science topics. Each compilation includes a set of lesson plans, hands-on activities and demos, modifiable worksheets, background information for teachers, and original PI videos.
Formally launched in 2009, Perimeter Institute's Teacher Network now includes teachers around the world and has impacted millions of students worldwide. The goal is to provide energetic and accomplished teachers with the tools needed to reach additional educators in their region through professional development workshops. Teacher Network members deliver professional development workshops in their area, help other educators to integrate activities into their classroom, and advise and field test Perimeter resources in development.
Teacher Programs
One teacher can empower hundreds of students. That’s why Perimeter is dedicated to supporting science teachers in Canada and around the world with engaging lessons, teaching workshops, and more.
Teacher programs include PD workshops, online courses, classroom simulations and EinsteinPlus.
The first step to becoming part of the Teacher Network is attending Perimeter's EinsteinPlus teacher workshop, offered annually in July.
EinsteinPlus is a one-week intensive workshop for Canadian and international high school teachers that focuses on modern physics including quantum physics, special relativity, and cosmology.
EinsteinPlus will take place at Perimeter Institute from July 10-14, 2023.
International Summer School for Young Physicists (ISSYP)
Perimeter encourages student curiosity through activities and programs, both inside the classroom and beyond.
ISSYP is an exciting and challenging two-week online program for Canadian and international high school students with a keen interest in theoretical physics who intend to pursue physics at the university level. Operated by Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, ISSYP is now in its 20th year and includes over 900 alumni in 60 countries.
General Public
Perimeter's Outreach department is committed to making theoretical physics and science research accessible and understandable to a general audience. Humans have an innate curiosity about the nature of the universe around them. Perimeter offers engaging and interactive events including public lectures and the
“Conversations at the Perimeter” podcasts, as well as online resources to answer current questions and inspire new ones!
