Ontario Association of Physics Teachers

OAPT is pleased to return to its traditional 3-day in-person conference in 2023! Take advantage to (re)connect with educators from across the province at Perimeter Institute in Waterloo.

It is the OAPT's mission to:

  • Advance the teaching of physics in the secondary schools, colleges and universities of Ontario
  • Promote a professional spirit and collegiality among its members

We are looking forward to connecting with new members and welcoming back returning members.

This year’s conference will feature:

  • This year’s theme, Science in a New Light, which addresses new developments in astronomy and offers a variety of educational workshops geared towards the new grade 9 destreamed science curriculum
  • Thursday evening Welcome dinner, followed by a Meet a PI Researcher event
  • Friday keynote by Katie Mack, Hawking Chair in Cosmology and Science Communication at Perimeter Institute
  • A great selection of workshops from award winning teachers and PI’s world-class outreach team on a variety of science and physics topics, pedagogy, and current events and discoveries
  • Meals and snacks provided by Perimeter Institute’s Black Hole Bistro
  • An exhibitor and vendor area with science educational resources and services
  • Travel subsidies available for educators living 300+ km away (please click HERE to apply)

Our registration/welcome desk, and all the conference sessions will be held at Perimeter Institute (PI).

Perimeter Institute is located in the heart of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, approximately one hour southwest of Toronto. The Centre is steps away from Waterloo Park and Uptown Waterloo’s plentiful restaurants, shops and cafés, as well as a 10-minute walk from the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University.
